Alexis's Crew
Geoff and Bambi Alexander
captain and crew
Geoff and Bambi Alexanders' dream
of cruising the world began 20 years ago. This dream was born while on
a "flotilla" holiday in Greece in 1982 and grew to fruition in December
1998, when they left the dock at Royal Cape Yacht Club along with 20 other
yachts bound for St. Helena, in what was the 2nd Governors' Cup Race.
Their vessel was a 34' Dudley Dix steel sloop built by Geoff and named
"Alexis." Needless to say she was a beauty in the eyes of her Skipper
and the First Mate.
From December 1998 to October 2002 Alexis carried Geoff and Bambi safely through many adventures, wonderful experiences and countless beautiful anchorages. From St. Helena, Brazil, up the Para River in the Amazon, French Guana, The Caribbean Island chain, British, American and Spanish Virgin Islands, Puerto Rica, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahamas and across the Gulf Stream to Cape Canaveral in Florida, then up the intercoastal waterway to the Chesapeake Bay. In all 12,000 nautical miles of incredible cruising!
While in Chesapeake our sailors took stock and recognized the fact that they could never go back to "land living" and made a decision to prolong their cruising lifestyle by making it permanent. They also wanted the ability to invite folk to join them on the various legs of their circumnavigations so the decision was made to build a comfortable catamaran, charter in various unusual and "off the beaten track" locations.
Geoff and Bambi have lived in Cape Town, South Africa for most of their lives. Geoff has a B.B.Sc degree and ran his own building company for 30 years. He enjoys sports, especially rugby. Geoff's hobbies range from woodworking and reading to sailing and water sports. Bambi, originally trained as a nurse, later found her true love, food and cooking. She spent 12 years in catering and enjoys wowing guests with her artistic presentation. Bambi also enjoys making bead jewelry and before taking to the sea was also a gardening and landscaping enthusiast.
Their only other passion besides sailing the world are their five children,
who will also join them from time to time.
Your knowledgeable Skipper Geoff and First Mate Bambi will insure
a happy cruising holiday.
